Online clinic platform, GenWise Health, is the 2017 Telstra South Australian Business of the Year.

Announced last night in Adelaide at the 25th annual Telstra South Australian Business Awards, the winner, GenWise Health, is a platform designed for GPs working outside the traditional clinic environment.

The business was founded by Dr Troye Wallett and Dr Sebastian Rees in response to the
frustrations they experienced first-hand when working in residential aged-care facilities. The system looks to help doctors save time, improve efficiencies, be better remunerated, and benefit from the support of a national community of fellow GPs.

Dr Rees says integrating an efficient management system with a professional support network has enabled the platform to help drive growth in niche areas of Australia’s health service, such as aged care, but also disadvantaged families and women leaving abusive relationships.

“Traditionally, it is challenging for GPs to work in the aged-care sector due to inherent inefficiencies.

By building an online clinic platform, that saves time and allows for better remuneration, we’re able to attract more GPs into the sector,” he said.

The business also took home the 2017 Telstra South Australian Micro Business Award.

Celebrating their 25th year, the Telstra Business Awards showcase the achievements and entrepreneurial spirit of Australia’s best small and medium businesses (SMBs) and more recently, charities as well.

Telstra Small Business Executive Director, Brendan Donohoe, said the winners of the 2017 Telstra South Australian Business Awards all demonstrated a level of innovation underpinned by a global ambition.

“For the winners of the 2017 Telstra South Australian Business Awards, technology is a fundamental part of their respective strategies. These strategies are focused on tackling the current issues affecting Australia’s communities and preparing for future trends which are destined to have an international impact,” he said.

“GenWise Health’s technology backbone has enabled the business to successfully respond to the global megatrend for a more mobile and sustainable workplace, enabling doctors to deliver an enhanced level of care across some of the country’s most complex medical service areas.”

Other businesses recognised at the 2017 Telstra South Australian Business Awards include:

  •  Myriota, pioneers of breakthrough satellite communications technology, won the 2017 Telstra South Australian New Business Award winner;
  • Kid Sense Child Development, a centre-based paediatric occupational therapy and speech pathology service provider, was the 2017 Telstra South Australian Small Business Award winner; and
  • L.V. Dohnt & Co., a Nangwarry-based logging company, took home the 2017 Telstra South Australian Medium Business Award.
Nominations are open year-round.
