A geotechnical testing and sampling company, HiQA Geotechnical, is the 2017 Telstra Northern Territory Business of the Year.

Announced at the 25th annual Telstra Northern Territory Business Awards, which were held in Darwin last night, the winner, HiQA Geotechnical, grew from one to 40 employees in less than a decade.

Counting a trio of laboratories across Darwin, Alice Springs and Katherine, HiQA Geotechnical delivers testing and sampling for companies operating within the construction, defence and mining industries across the Northern Territory and Western Australia.

HiQA Geotechnical owner and Director, Luke Myall, says the key to the company’s success lies in its fearlessness when it comes to pushing boundaries.

“We don’t accept being the same as every other construction materials testing company. Our aim is to always exceed industry expectations and go above and beyond to keep our clients’ projects running on time and to budget.”

The business also took home the 2017 Telstra Northern Territory Medium Business Award.

Celebrating their 25th year, the Telstra Business Awards showcase the achievements and entrepreneurial spirit of Australia’s best small and medium businesses (SMBs) and more recently, charities as well.

Telstra Small Business Executive Director, Brendan Donohoe, said the winners of the 2017 Telstra Northern Territory Business Awards demonstrate what it takes to become ‘that’ business – a leader in their field, a name that is trusted and admired and an organisation that inspires others.

“The Northern Territory winners all have innovation at the heart of their operations and have harnessed the latest advancements in technology to drive the next phase of their business strategy,” he said.

“HiQA Geotechnical demonstrated a clear culture of excellence across every area of the business, from maintaining exceptionally high operational standards in a complex and competitive industry, to ensuring staff members feel highly valued. Coupled with this, their forward-looking approach has enabled them to successfully diversify to meet market demands.”

Other businesses recognised at the 2017 Telstra Northern Territory Business Awards include:

  • Tutor Me, an educational learning centre, won the 2017 Telstra Northern Territory New Business Award winner
  • Nth Degree Engineering Services, a multidisciplinary consultancy company, took home the 2017 Telstra Northern Territory Micro Business Award
  • Northern Territory Veterinary Services, which provides animal care to local, rural and indigenous communities throughout the Territory, was the 2017 Telstra Northern Territory Small Business Award winner
  • Riding for the Disabled in the Top End, a charity aiming to develop the abilities and enrich the lives of people with disabilities, was the winner of the 2017 Telstra Northern Territory Charity Award

Nominations are open year-round.
